Pheladi

Good day, everyone. My name is Pheladi, and I am one of many young women who set out into the world searching for help, love, and a sense of belonging. At a young age, I didn’t realise that what I was searching for wasn’t my true purpose. However, today, I’m grateful for my past, as it has shaped me into the responsible and independent woman I am now. I’ve learned to take ownership of my responsibilities and remain committed to them.

I’m ambitious and ready to take on the world — without fear and hesitation. Life has thrown many challenges my way from a young age, but I’ve learned that life isn’t unfair; it’s simply a journey of lessons. To every young girl out there, I want you to know: Do not give up. There is always light at the end of the tunnel.

When I arrived at Kids Haven, I was unsure of what to expect. I was both excited and confused about my life. But soon, I met wonderful people who changed my perspective. I embraced the opportunity, put in the work, and learned as much as I could. Most importantly, I found the courage to ask for help, and that was my turning point.

Today, I work as a receptionist at a restaurant in Edenvale, Johannesburg. I’m proud of how far I’ve come, and even prouder of the woman I’ve become. My scars are part of my beauty, and my past has shaped me into the stronger, wiser version of myself that stands here today.

To every young woman reading this: Keep fighting. Seek support, push forward, and remember, your journey is not over.
