Our children received academic accolades and we are so proud!
“Believe you can and you’re halfway there.” – Theodore Roosevelt
Year-end brings with it award ceremonies at schools and several of our children were recently recognised for their academic achievements. We couldn’t be prouder of them. These children have faced adversity and have worked hard to not only meet the required standards at school but to excel.
To honour their privacy and keep them safe we cannot share their names but would like to celebrate them anyway:
- M received a certificate for excellence in Afrikaans, a trophy for History and English and a medal for Maths Literacy.
- C received a certificate of excellence for Tourism, a trophy for Accounting and a medal for Business Science.
- P received a certificate for Most Disciplined Student in Grade 10, a trophy for History, and medals for Geography and Life Orientation.
- D was awarded a certificate for isiZulu.
- CD received a certificate of excellence.
We also want to congratulate all our Teen Hub young adults who completed various courses throughout the year. Well done! Keep up the hard work.
Education is critical for these children. It is also a major expensive for Kids Haven. Support us today by donating to pay for school fees, uniforms, school tours and stationery.
Visiting the elderly – giving without an expectation of receiving
Our boys recently visited grannies and grandpas who live down the road in their special retirement home. The boys took cupcakes and scones to share with the residents and enjoyed spending time with them. We strive to build a spirit of generosity in every child because we believe the ability to give someone something without wanting anything back in return matters in life.
Amazing support for our Golf Day – thank you!
Our annual Golf Day took place on 18 November at The Wanderers. It was a beautiful day and 130 golfers arrived to compete and have fun for a good cause.
We are very excited to announce that R160 000 was raised through entries, hole donations and lucky draw ticket sales. We can only say Thank You to everyone who made it such a success. This money will go a long way to covering school fees and supporting our children.
A special shout out needs to go to all our sponsors who provided the most generous prizes. Each golfer received a prize and these were so appreciated.
Ilka Stein, our Youth Hub manager, and her team of young people used the day to share the concept of the Pathways Programme. “Our Pathways Programme is about finding the right career and job opportunity fit for the young people who join the programme. Each person is unique and needs a unique pathway to employment or further education. We need the support of businesses to give these young people an insight into the world of work – whether that’s in the form of a visit to your factory or office or offering a work opportunity. Everything helps these young people. If you can help in any way please contact me on youth@kidshaven.co.za,” she says.
Stationery needed – can you help?
Stationery packs are needed for each child at the start of the year. We are excited to share that Copywrite Centre, which is in the Cramerview Shopping Centre alongside our donation centre in Bryanston, has created links where you can purchase stationery packs for our children. We know them, use them and trust them! This makes donating a stationery pack quick and easy!
