Annelie du Plessis

Annelie du Plessis – Children’s Rights Attorney/Legal and Compliance Support

Annelie du Plessis is an admitted, practising attorney at the JCAF Legal Centre for Children, and Kids Haven. Annelie has been in the NGO sector for 12 years, and has managed various public law interest cases – one of which was nominated for a Gender Justice Award.

In her capacity as legal advisor to Kids Haven, Annelie is responsible for supporting the organisation both internally and externally. Annelie’s expertise is used across the board, from contractual assistance to policy and programme development to running our law clinic and supporting cases. She ensures that a rights based approach (therefore constitutionally legal) to service delivery for children in care is in place. Annelie also liaises with government and private organisations on behalf of Kids Haven, and sources much needed funds for the running of these programmes.

Annelie has been working with the following organisations to defend children’s rights:

  • The One Child a Year Campaign, ProBono.Org;
  • The CYCC forum, Gauteng;
  • The Centre for Child Law;
  • Lawyers for Human Rights;
  • Hearts of Hope; Babies Matters; Botshabelo and the
  • Shukumiso network, looking at GBV issues that also affect children;

She is also a board member of JCAF – the Johannesburg Child Advocacy Forum, and the case coordinator for the Mamas Alliance’s RUMS network- (managing cases involving undocumented, refugee, asylum and unaccompanied children).
